  1. CBD Facts – CBD is found in hemp plants

For years, the demand of high potency THC strain breeding drastically reduced the prevalence of CBD in the female buds.  Within each plant there is only so much room for active compounds, and with every increase in THC, CBD content would take a hit.  However, this only applies to the female cannabis buds, not the male industrial hemp plants.  To the benefit of many, clinical researchers soon learned that CBD is common in the stalks and leaves of cannabis plants, making the male hemp plant a perfect source of CBD cultivation and extraction.

  2. CBD Facts – CBD does not get you “high”

Since commercial CBD comes from industrial hemp, it legally must lack the categorical high so famous of THC rich female cannabis buds.  By law, all industrial hemp plants must contain less than 0.3% THC.  This nominal amount is far, far below the threshold to trigger any psychoactive response in our brains.  Similarly, psychoactivity comes from active stimulation of the THC molecule binding with the CB1 receptor.  The CBD molecule does not fit at the CB1 receptor in the endocannabinoid system.  As such, no psychoactivity results regardless of the dosing.

  3. CBD Facts – CBD is available online

Whereas THC products, whether recreational or medical, are subject to strict regulation and distribution standards set forth by state governments, CBD (at least hemp CBD) falls outside these bounds.  In 2014, when President Obama gave the green light to growing industrial hemp again, it also gave the green light to e-commerce of hemp derivative products.  CBD, being an industrial hemp product, is available online and ships to most regions.  All it takes is a credit card and a connection to the internet.

  4. CBD Facts – CBD has a good side effect profile

One of the largest driving beneficiaries of CBD research and its proliferation in the market is the World Health Organizaiton’s 2017 stamp of approval in their pre-review of CBD.  In doing so, in accordance with research already outstanding, they agreed that CBD is generally “well tolerated” with a “good side effect profile.”  What does this mean exactly?  It means that for the most part, those using CBD either as treatment or as a health supplement felt few to no side effects.  For the few that did report side effects, the research deems this as a result of drug-drug interactions, not CBD acting alone on the body.

  5. CBD Facts – CBD does not work better the more you take

Another stamp of approval that CBD is receiving from the WHO is that there is no threat of abuse.  For this reason, it does not cause of public health threat.  Unlike many common drugs, especially pain and anxiety medications, the more one takes of CBD, the less effective it becomes.  This is known as “dose dependency” in the medical community.  Take a look at clinical trials: low doses and high doses produce the same, nominal results.  However, that median dose is extremely therapeutic.  Compare this to an opioid or benzodiazepine, whose effects are ever increasing, even causing death, if taken to excess.  It is impossible to overdose on CBD.
